These vintage pictures of Boston Massachusetts are from a set simply listed as “Travels I.” I’m really looking forward to sharing these photos with you as there are a ton of great pictures from around the world in this set. The first several pages are from around the Boston area and all seem to have something to do with the American Revolution. These are dated August 31, 1973 and are around Boston, Massachusetts.
This is an unknown (to me) church (government?) building in Boston Massachusetts. I was not able to identify it in Google or in street maps. Any one know what building it is?
The Old Meeting House in Boston, now a museum
The “Father of Our Country,” President (then General) George Washington suitably seated on Horse Back.
Paul Revere, made famous in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem “Paul Revere’s Ride”. Perhaps someday William Dawes and Dr. Samuel Prescott will be as famous for their part in warning of the British invasion.
Statue of Samuel Adams, famous these days for the beer brewed in his name. But historically famous as a signatory of the Declaration of Independence. I can highly recommend Samuel Adams: A Life by Stoll, Ira if you wish to know more about this man.
And lastly, the Tower of the Old North Church pokes up in the distance here. Famous as the location of the lantern signal of “one if by land, two if by sea” that precipitated Dr. Prescott, Dawes’, and Revere’s famous ride.
